Welcome to SNAP WiFi

Thank you for stopping by to see what SNAP WiFi is all about.  SNAP WiFi is a provider of wireless internet access sponsored by local and national businesses.  These businesses recognize the need for wifi in your day-to-day activities and are offering it to you for free.  The problem with wifi providers right now is, they just don't understand.  You as an individual, more than likely, are already paying for internet access at home.  Does it really make sense to pay another internet bill just so you can check your email while having a cup of coffee?

User Information

Are you tired of paying for multiple internet accounts; one for home, one at the office, one on the road? Why not use free wifi? Why isn't free wifi more widely available? Ask the manager at the places you frequent why they don't offer it. Then have them call us.

You may have some questions about the service itself.

Here are the answers to some of those questions...

  1. How does this service work?
  2. How secure are these hotspots?
  3. Nothing is ever FREE, what's the catch?
  4. Can I use my PDA?

How does this service work?
The answer to that could be a bit lengthy, but we'll break it down into sections and try not to get too technical. The service works like a wireless network like most of you have at home. A wireless access point connected to the internet and your computer equiped with a wireless card. All you need to do is tell your computer to connect to the "FREE-SNAPWiFi" wireless network, agree to the terms of service and you are online. That's it, no subscription, no fees, no hassle. Could we have made it any easier?

How secure are these hotspots?
Let me start with this statement; Nothing on the internet is ever 100% secure. Internet security is like the lock on your car. It will keep your car from being stolen until someone with more determination than that lock comes along. Internet security is the same way and personal security was on the top of the list though, when we designed these hotspots. With a typical router like you have at home, it allows for peer-to-peer networking or workgroup sharing of files. Our access points do not. All traffic through the access point is routed out to the internet and back form the internet to the user's computer. Access from one computer to the access point and then to another computer at the same location is simply forbidden by the software in the access point itself. Doesn't mean you can't chat or e-mail with them, just that they can't access your hard drive.

Nothing is ever FREE, what's the catch?
Okay, you caught us on this one. There is one small catch. These hotspots are sponsored by local and national businesses for your use free of charge. In order for these companies to continue to offer this service to you absolutely free, they need your business. Now, given the choice between two restaurants, same food, same price range but, one offers free wifi the other does not, "Where are you going for lunch?

Can I use my PDA?
Sure. Any 802.11b wireless device that has a browser, can access any SNAP WiFi hotspot. You have to be able to open a browser window and agree to the terns of service on the first page you see. After that, you can go anywhere you want to go.

We updated our FAQs to reflect your requests! FAQs are here to answers the questions you did not know you wanted to ask.

Become a Free WiFi Sponsor

SNAP WiFi wants to help you provide your customers with Free wireless internet access.  With a value-added service like free wifi, your customers will know you are in touch with their needs.  You will see happier patrons, not to mention more of them.  As a restaurant, how many lunches are cut short because they have to get back to the office?  As a dentist office, how many check-ups get skipped because they just can't take the time off work?  As a tire and lube center, how many people drop off their car for a "while you wait" oil change?  With free wifi in your establishment they won't have to.  They can keep in touch with the office and/or their clients and still have a productive day getting everything done.  That said, you probably have a handful of questions about where, how and why not.  We will try and answer all of them here but, if you don't see your question here, please call or send an e-mail and we will be more then happy to answer it for you.

Here are the answers to a few of the most common questions.

  1. Why don't I just go and buy a wireless router?
  2. What kind of establishment can this be installed in?
  3. What do I get out of all of this?
  4. How secure are the SNAP WiFi hotspots?

Why don't I just go and buy a wireless router?
This is probably the most common question and really, it's the easiest to answer. The short answer is; Because the router you buy at the corner computer store is all you get.

When you become a SNAP WiFi hotspot you get so much more than just the hardware. If one of your customers has a problem connecting to the hotspot, they call us. You don't need to worry about whether your staff is wifi trained or even if they know what wifi is. We take care of all technical support. And that is just the beginning. In a following question we will give you a complete list of the included services that are provided to you as a SNAP WiFi sponsor.

What kind of establishment can this be installed in?
This system can be installed in any place that patrons or the public would normally be sitting doing nothing. The only limits to where you can provide this service are, the number of chairs and your imagination. We can install anywhere, from your restaurant to your laundry mat, from your office waiting area to the park across the street. What better way to advertise that you are there, than by providing wifi to a neighboring park. How many people use that park? How many would bring their laptop if they knew they could get online? And how many would walk into your business because they saw your name on the opening screen?

What do I get out of all of this?
First and foremost, you get the full package of services from SNAP WiFi. This package includes: Second, increased revenue. It is a proven fact that wifi is has a direct effect on the number of customers that walk in the door, about 30- 45% more. Along with more customers, they tend to spend a little more on their ticket, about 10-15%. What that means is that for little or no effort or headache, you could increase your gross business by about 50%.

How secure are the SNAP WiFi hotspots?
Personal security was on the top of the list when we designed these hotspots. With a typical router like you have at home, it allows for peer-to-peer networking or workgroup sharing of files. Our access points do not. All traffic through the access point is routed out to the internet and back from the internet to the user's computer. Access from one computer to the access point and then to another computer at the same location is simply forbidden by the software in the access point itself.
